Good Time As Ever To Ditch The Old GE Washer

Partly because I had to spin the load three times just to extract a bit more water out of it - I know it’s not my dryer or the vents that’s causing some loads to still be slightly damp, but I had a feeling the GE is starting to show its age.

Strangely, my uncle gave me a second GE but it’s slightly different - it’s not as powerful as the current model in the house and there’s no such thing as brakes on it... Which is nice. They also told me the digital timer will glitch from time to time (big no.) So it’s off to the appliance store, I guess.

I might be looking at a Speed Queen, can’t trust Samsung models, oddly.

I know you said it’s not the vents, but I feel honor bound to ask if you’re sure . Have you checked the vent for lint all along the path? Because that’s the most common cause of poor drying, and it could save you a bundle if it is and you just clear out the path. There are services to do just that.

They put at least 4 HDMIs on all their TVs, but NEVER a single one on their washers. Lame.

I’d have to check again just to be sure, but it’s still drying normally as of late. It’s only when the Automatic Dry function is used to dry bedsheets, but everything else has been fine until a couple of months ago. I’m not exactly sure if my clothes should still be a bit more damp than usual after a spin cycle...

Go Miele or go home!

That’s what everybody told me, so I forked over some significant cash on the promise that these things last 20+ years.

Have you inspected the drain pump? Its probably just clogged.

EDIT: we talking about washers or dryers here, im confused.

Only when the automatic dry function is in use? Bad hygrometer (Rh sensor), I would bet on it. The popular tech in use for precision stuff (special polymer) breaks down and loses accuracy over time, so I wouldn’t be surprised if similar stuff on the cheap does too.

Just the washer in general. I might have to give the drain pipe one good check, though.

Why do I get the foreboding feeling that I’m going to discovery nasty af hair?

I cleaned mine recently, its usually just clothing fibers that junk it up. 20 minute job for my GE and it works like a champ

You know what, check the lint trap anyway. Do it every few months and proactively. Trust me. It will save a lot of wear on the machine and money in the long run.

For washers and dryers, I’m of the mind that the less expensive, the better. We’ve tried the front-loading spendy kind and I was massively disappointed with their durability (there is none) and their performance (they do a shitty job cleaning clothes). Give me a pair of good old fashioned Maytags any day!

Ehhh, I’m a bit weary of Maytags as of late - most of them are those strange HE washers. I wouldn’t mind an SQ despite the $700 price tag..

Just bought it two months ago, but my parents’ Miele is at 20+ years and their neighbours just replaced theirs after over 30 years just because they wanted something new, not because it was broken. This is what made me get one. So let’s talk in a decade or so.
